Stand & Deliver

It's What We’re Watching Wednesday! This week, we were inspired by the film "Stand and Deliver."

This powerful film tells the true story of Jaime Escalante, a math teacher who challenges expectations in a predominantly Hispanic high school. Through unconventional methods, he empowers his students, including those written off as ""no-hopers,"" to excel in AP Calculus.

We won't spoil the ending, but let's just say get ready for some serious tears of joy! This is a must-watch for anyone who believes in the potential of every student. We especially love that when we go back and watch this classic, we find it stands the test of time. (Not all movies do, sometimes we watch them later and find they are cringe!) The reason? It didn't use tired tropes of white saviors saving poor kids from the hood. Instead it is a true story of a teacher who was himself an immigrant, dedicated to lifting up his community.
